How Swollen Gums Can Affect Life Expectancy

Most individuals may not understand how oral health may affect life expectancy. One must firstly recognize that the oral cavity is a major gateway into the human body as well as to its systems. The mouth is the upper part of the digestive system having structures that prepares food for the first phase of digestion. The oral cavity includes the tongue, teeth, gum, salivary glands, hard and soft palate and the mucosa. Because the body has various inter-connected systems of organs, problems with one part of the body may affect the other parts as well. Take for example swollen gums, this can be associated to gum disease or other certain illness and may have toothache, headache and ear ache. Making oral health a priority will save natural teeth and prolong healthy life.
